"Versatility" would be the word to describe the music of "Pushing the Envelope" and the other three CDs by composer/arranger/pianist Norman McGraw. "I get bored doing the same niche", he remarks. "I've been that way all my life". On "Pushing the Envelope", as well as the CDs "Throwaway" (2008), "In Search of Mastermind" (2006) and "The Inner Self" (1995), McGraw plays smooth jazz as well as swing, and hints of R & B, funk, country, Latin, and even classical sounds.
